Color conventions for highlighting additions versus deletions vary across different comparison tools, and confirming which convention a specific tool uses before relying on its output matters, since misreading a highlight’s meaning, mistaking an addition for a deletion, for instance, produces exactly the wrong conclusion about what actually changed, undermining the whole purpose of using a visual comparison tool in the first place.
