A VDC team on a large commercial project might handle model coordination and clash detection, 4D scheduling that links the construction schedule directly to the 3D model so sequencing can be visualized rather than only described in a spreadsheet, and quantity extraction from the model to support cost estimating, a broader mandate than a BIM coordinator focused purely on merging discipline models and running clash reports.
