Scope Gap Analysis

Scope gap analysis is the systematic process of comparing subcontractor scopes, contract documents, and drawing sets to identify work items that fall outside each trade’s contracted scope. It is a structured form of cross-referencing that catches scope gaps before they become field disputes.

Doing this well means going beyond a single trade’s proposal checked against the drawings in isolation. It requires building a comprehensive picture of each trade cluster’s combined scope for a given area of work, then checking that combined picture against what the drawings and specs actually show, flagging any item that doesn’t clearly fall within at least one trade’s accepted responsibility.
